It looks like Captain Marvel 2 has found its bad guy, or in this case, bad girl. According to Deadline, actress Zawe Ashton has been cast as the villain in the upcoming film. The Illuminerdi was first to report yesterday that Ashton was being eyed for the film.
Ashton’s film credits include Velvet Buzzsaw, Nocturnal Animals and Greta. She also appeared in the Broadway play Betrayal. In it she starred alongside Loki himself, Tom Hiddleston.
Besides describing the role as the “main villain”, Deadline didn’t reveal any other details about the role, specifically who it is. The outlet did note that while Ashton’s character is being is passed off as the “main villain”, it could be a trick or there could be an even greater threat. Similar to what happened in the first Captain Marvel with the Skrulls.
Captain Marvel 2 will once again star Brie Larson as Carol Danvers (aka Captain Marvel). It will be directed by Nia DaCosta and is expected to be released in theaters on November 11, 2022.
At Disney’s Investor Day Presentation in December, it was revealed that Teyonah Parris (Monica Rambeau) and Iman Vellani (Ms. Marvel) would appear in the film. Parris’ Rambeau can currently be seen in the Disney+ show WandaVision. Vellani’s Ms. Marvel is slated to debut in her own show later this year.
