Over the weekend it was reported by The Cosmic Circus that actor Will Poulter (We’re The Millers, Black Mirror) had been cast as Adam Warlock in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Well a short while ago, after also being reported by the Hollywood trades, director James Gunn officially confirmed the news on his Twitter account.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the search for the MCU’s Warlock began in August. Described as a role “everyone wants”, the outlet says that other actors considered were Bridgerton star Regé-Jean Page and 1917‘s George MacKay. Ultimately Gunn and other Marvel Studios execs came to the decision that Poulter was their guy.
Warlock was first teased during one of the mid-credit scenes of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 in 2017. In the scene, the Sovereign High Priestess Ayesha, who was defeated by the Guardians, introduced a birthing pod that contained what she described as “the next step in our evolution”. Moments before the scene cut to black, she said that the name of the being inside was “Adam.”
While plot details are still unknown about Vol. 3, It’s probably safe to assume that Poulter’s Warlock will be looking to get revenge against the Guardians. It’s probably also safe to assume that he’ll eventually become one of their allies.
According to Gunn, filming is expected to begin in the coming “weeks.” You can catch Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 in theaters on May 5, 2023.
So what do you think of the casting?
