With the recent confirmation that Christian Bale will be playing the villain (or so they say) in the upcoming Thor: Love and Thunder, speculation now begins on who it is. According to MCU Cosmic, the character that is being described is “alien and otherworldly”. I’ve rounded up four characters that I think meet this description and give my take on who the mysterious foe will be.
First appearing in 1977, Gladiator has gone head to head with the Thunder God on a number of occasions. He processes multiple abilities, including super strength, speed, durability, and flight. However, he may only use his abilities if he is “completely devoted to a purpose”. A Member of the Strontian race, he turned against his people at the request of the Shi’ar Empire. After wiping them out he was made leader of the Shi’ar Imperial Guard.
While I do think Bale has the build to play Gladiator, I don’t think he will be the right fit for the movie. He is certainly a worthy adversary, but he just doesn’t feel like a villain that writer/director Taika Waititi would put in the movie. Also while he has gone up against the Mighty Thor numerous times, he is mostly known as a character from the X-Men and Fantastic Four series.
