With all the recent rumors surrounding it, the MCU’s third Spider-Man film is, in my opinion, the most anticipated movie for 2021. Now Peter Parker himself, Tom Holland, just gave me even more reason to think that.
In a new interview with Variety, Holland described the film as the most “ambitious standalone superhero movie ever made.”
“You sit down, read the script, and see what they’re trying to do, and they’re succeeding,” he added. “It’s really impressive. I’ve never seen a standalone superhero movie quite like it. And I’m just, you know, again, that lucky little shit who happens to be Spider-Man in it. We got a lot more shooting to do. We started before Christmas and shot for like seven weeks. We stopped for the Christmas break, and then we’re starting again. I’m just as excited as everyone else to see it, let alone be a part of it.”
For those unfamiliar with the rumors, back in December, it was reported that the previous Spider-Man actors, Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire, would appear in the film. So there would be three Spider-Man on the screen together. The film is expected to heavily involve the Multiverse, so that could be how they manage to make it to the MCU to team up with Holland.
When asked about their involvement in the film, Holland said he has no idea if they are in it. He did add though that he hopes “they enjoy our movie, I hope they enjoy my Spider-Man.” So either Holland is lying, or he honestly doesn’t know. I hope it’s the first one.
The untitled Spider-Man 3 is slated to hit theaters on December 17, 2021.
