During an interview with Variety earlier this week, Thor: Love and Thunder director Taika Waititi said that the film was not done. With it slated to hit theaters on July 8, many people (including myself) took this to mean that it wasn’t finished on the post-production side. However, a new report has revealed that it might actually need more work done to it than just fixing some effects.
According to The Wrap, the film will undergo re-shoots in the coming weeks. The outlet made the reveal in an article that revisited Disney’s massive 2012 box office bomb John Carter.
Nowadays, this “additional photography” is built into every big-budget film schedule; it has become a tenet on which the Marvel Studios movies are based (“Thor: Love and Thunder,” out this summer, is going back for additional photography in the next few weeks, for example). The Wrap
As The Wrap noted, it is very much a common practice for Marvel Studios films to undergo re-shoots months before their release. In fact, their next movie, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (May 6), had to undergo a whole month’s worth of them in December. Given that we still haven’t gotten a trailer, I’m sure though there will start to be some that wonder if the God of Thunder’s fourth film will be pushed back.
Like other upcoming Phase 4 films, Thor: Love and Thunder will have quite the casting assemble. It will star Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Natalie Portman (Jane Foster/Mighty Thor), Tessa Thompson (Valkyrie), Jaimie Alexander (Sif), Chris Pratt (Star-Lord), Dave Bautista (Drax the Destroyer), Karen Gillan (Nebula), Russell Crowe (Zeus), and Christian Bale as the villain Gorr The God Butcher.
