Last month, it was confirmed that the group known as The Illuminati would appear in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Well, for the first time, the group’s presence in the sequel has officially been felt when their name was dopped in a new TV Spot.
As you can see, while Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange is being held captive in another universe, a Mordo variant (played by Chiwetel Ejiofor) tells him that “The Illuminati will see you now.” While we never see any members of the group, we do see the Sorceress Supreme walking into a courtroom with several throne-like chairs.
In the comics, The Illuminati is known to consist of Iron Man, Mister Fantastic, Namor, Black Bolt, Doctor Strange, and Charles Xavier. So far, the only member that we know this group will consist of is Patrick Stewart’s Xavier.
Of course, throughout the film’s production, there have been many rumors about who the others will be. Some noble ones include John Krasinski as Mister Fantastic, Lashana Lynch as Maria Rambeau, Hayley Atwell as Captain Carter, Anson Mount as Black Bolt, and Tom Cruise as Tony Stark/Iron Man. Since these are rumors, most, if not all, will likely turn out to be inaccurate. However, I would not be surprised to see a couple, particularly Atwell’s Captain Carter and Lynch’s Rambeau, turn out to be true.
We’re just a little over a week until Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness hits theaters (May 6). Next Monday is the premiere, which means we will be getting our first reactions Tuesday. It also means that leaks will start to pop up online, so be cautious with what you read.
