Marvel Studios has finally added someone other than Mahershala Ali to the cast of their upcoming Blade film. According to The Hollywood Reporter, actor Delroy Lindo is in “final negotiations” to join the movie.
While the outlet didn’t give any details on his role, some online have started to speculate that he could be playing Jamal Afari. In the comics, Afari is the one that raised and trained the vampire hunter. In the previous Blade film franchise (1998-2004), the character’s name was changed to Abraham Whistler (played by Kris Kristofferson).
Lindo has appeared in many films over his long career. When I was a kid, I remember him in movies like The Cider House Rules (1999), Gone in 60 Seconds (2000), and The One (2001). More recently, he’s appeared in such films as The Harder They Fall and Da 5 Bloods.
While Ali’s Blade has yet to appear in the MCU, his voice can be heard during the post-credit scene of the studios’ latest film the Eternals.
Look for Blade to hit theaters sometime in late 2023 or 2024.
