Despite being released on the same weekend as HBO Max’s Zack Snyder’s Justice League, Marvel Studios’ new series Falcon and the Winter Soldier, was still able to break Disney+ viewership records.
Earlier today, Disney announced that the Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan led series had the biggest premiere ever on Disney+ during its opening weekend.
“Disney+ Original series The Falcon and The Winter Soldier from Marvel Studios ranked as the most-watched series premiere ever on Disney+ during its opening weekend, Friday, March 19 – Sunday, March 22, and the most-watched title overall for the same time period on a global basis, including in Disney+ Hotstar markets.”The Walt Disney Company
“The premiere of The Falcon and The Winter Soldier joins the premieres of Marvel Studios’ first live-action series, WandaVision, and the season two premiere of The Mandalorian from Lucasfilm as the three most-watched Disney+ Original series-opening weekends to-date.”The Walt Disney Company
Unfortunately, the company didn’t release any statistics to go along with the news, so we’re just gonna have to use our imagination.
Given the popularity of the MCU and Disney+’s continued growing subscribers, the news really shouldn’t come that much of a surprise. The reason though that it might have been able to beat WandaVision, is because the series was marketed as a more traditional action packed MCU property. For fans, that might have been more to their liking.
The Falcon and the Winter Soldier is slated to be six episodes long. Episode 2 is scheduled to drop this Friday at 3 AM ET/12 AM PT.
