This morning, Sony Pictures released a brand new extended trailer of their upcoming film Morbius. Based on the popular Spider-Man villain/antihero, the film will star Jared Leto as Michael Morbius (AKA Morbius the Living Vampire)
In the three minute video, it looks like Morbius will take place in the same universe as Sony’s Venom films. What is not known is why Michael Keaton’s Adrian Toome ( AKA The Vulture) is in it. Given that he was the main villain in 2017’s Spider-Man: Homecoming, it was thought that he was suppose to be in the MCU, a separate universe. Perhaps this is a different Toome or maybe by the end of Spider-Man: No Way Home (December 17), he is some how transported to the Sony verse.
Along with Leto, Morbius will star Matt Smith, Adria Arjona, Jared Harris, Al Madrigal, and Tyrese Gibson. Look for the film to hit theaters on January 28, 2022.
Here’s the official Morbius synopsis
“One of Marvel’s most compelling and conflicted characters comes to the big screen as Oscar winner Jared Leto transforms into the enigmatic antihero Michael Morbius. Dangerously ill with a rare blood disorder and determined to save others suffering his same fate, Dr. Morbius attempts a desperate gamble. At first it seems to be a radical success, a darkness inside him is unleashed. Will good override evil – or will Morbius succumb to his mysterious new urges?”
