Sony delays Morbius from January 28 to April 1

By Stephen Ippolito | January 3rd, 2022

Well, here we go again. A short while ago, Sony Pictures announced that they have moved their next Marvel film, Morbius, from January 28 to April 1. The delay is likely due to the surge of Omicron cases across the U.S. in recent weeks.

This will mark the seventh time that the film will have been pushed back because of the pandemic. Originally, it was supposed to come out on July 10, 2020.

While Omicron is the likely cause for the delay, some online have started to speculate that there could have been other factors. Forbes’ Scott Mendelson says that one reason could be that it allows Spider-Man: No Way Home to drive up its box office earnings in late January/early February. Mendelson also said that the delay could have been done to allow Sony to add a cameo in it. Could it be a certain Spider-Man actor that appeared in No Way Home? Guess will just have to wait and see.

Morbius will star Jared Leto as the popular Spider-Man villain. Directed by Daniel Espinosa, it will also star Matt Smith, Adria Arjona, Jared Harris, Al Madrigal, Tyrese Gibson, and Michael Keaton as Adrian Toomes (AKA the Vulture).
