Samuel L. Jackson is just letting it all out when it comes to who is in Marvel Studios’ upcoming series Secret Invasion. During an interview with the Happy, Sad, Confused Podcast, the Nick Fury actor confirmed that Don Cheadle’s Colonel James Rhodes would appear in the Disney+ show.
“C’mon man, you walk on the set, Emilia’s amazing…Ben Mendelsohn, he’s awesome. Don, Don Cheadle. I got Don, that’s my golf buddy. I didn’t realize it, but ’til we did this thing, I was like, ‘We’ve never worked together.’ We just kinda know each other, hang out and laugh,” Jackson continued, “but we’d never worked together and we finally [got to work together].”
News of Rhodey appearing in the series was technically revealed a few weeks ago when a photo of Cheadle on set was leaked. Jackson has just now made it official.
This was the second time in less than a week that Jackson has let it slip that a known MCU character would appear in the series. During a separate interview last Friday, he said that Martin Freeman’s Everett K. Ross would also appear.
The last time we saw Rhodes was when he made a surprise cameo during the first episode of Falcon and the Winter Soldier. It’s not known if his part in Secret Invasion will be similar or if it will be a bigger role.
Like most supporting Avengers characters, Cheadle’s Rhodey is also slated to get his own Disney+ series (Armor Wars). The last update we got on the project was last August when it was revealed that Yassir Lester would serve as Head Writer.
As for Secret Invasion, filming for the series has been ongoing since the Fall. Along with Cheadle and Jackson, it will star Ben Mendelsohn (Talos), Cobie Smulders (Maria Hill), Emilia Clarke, Olivia Colman, Christopher McDonald, Killian Scott, Dermot Mulroney, and Kingsley Ben-Adir as the main villain.
Look for Secret Invasion to hit the Disney streaming service sometime in 2023.
