Since Disney’s acquisition of 20th Century Fox Studios, fans have wondered how characters like the X-Men and Fantastic Four would be introduced into the MCU. There have been even more questions about how the vulgar mouthed Deadpool will make his way to the family-friendly studio. Disney Chairman Bob Iger has said on numerous occasions that the plan is to continue to make rated R films with the character. Still, that hasn’t stopped some from wondering if the studio will change its position and tone down the potty-mouthed antihero.
In a recent interview with Total Film magazine, Deadpool himself, Ryan Reynolds discussed how he thinks the character will be portrayed moving forward.
“Oh, man, I really don’t know,” Reynolds said. “It’s just all so new with it being over at Marvel now, and, you know, figuring out the ins and outs as much as I can, from where I sit. We’ll see.”
It does seem that despite Iger’s past comments, there has not been a decision on if Deadpool’s vulgar style will continue. Reynolds would even go onto somewhat question if Deadpool 3 will happen.
“I don’t feel like an insider at all. I think once I’m more intimate with it – if we get to make a Deadpool 3… if or when we get to make a Deadpool 3, I’ll probably have a better perspective on that. But I’m a huge fan of Marvel, and how they make movies. So when Disney bought Fox, I only saw that as a good thing. Deadpool hopefully being allowed to play in that sandbox, I think is just a win for everyone involved. But we’ll certainly see.”
It’s fascinating to hear Reynolds somewhat question even if the film will happen. This could just be strategy on his end to put pressure on the studio, but who knows. All I can say is, in the end, I too hope Deadpool gets to play in Marvel’s “sandbox.
