(The following contains spoilers for the upcoming film Thor: Love and Thunder. You’ve been warned.)
Uh oh, Kevin Feige is not going to like this. During an interview this week on Australian radio station Joy 94.9, Russell Crowe revealed that he will be playing Zeus in the upcoming Phase 4 film Thor: Love and Thunder. Crowe’s involvement in the film was confirmed a few weeks back when he was spotted at a rugby match in Australia with Chris Hemsworth.
In the comics, Zeus has had many run-ins and team-ups with the God of Thunder over the years. He is the ruler of Mount Olympus, where many gods based on Greek mythology reside. He’s also the father of Hercules whose also had a long history with Thor. Last summer, it was rumored that Hercules would debut sometime in Phase 4. Since then however, there’s been no word on when that will be.
It will be interesting to see how big of a role Crowe’s Zeus will be in the film. Something tells me that it won’t be that big and that he will actually be one of Gorr the God Butcher’s victims.
Given its star-studded cast, Thor: Love and Thunder looks to be the biggest film in all of Phase 4. Along with Crowe, it will star Hemsworth (Thor), Tessa Thompson (Valkyrie), Natalie Portman (Jane Foster/Mighty Thor), Jaimie Alexander (Lady Sif), and most, if not all, the Guardians of the Galaxy. Playing Gorr the God Butcher will be former Batman actor Christian Bale.
Taika Waititi will once again serve as director and also the voice of Korg. Look for Thor: Love and Thunder to hit theaters on May 6th, 2022.
