Thor: Love and Thunder has added another big named actor. Deadline reports that Oscar winner Russell Crowe has joined the cast of the fourth Thor film. The upcoming Marvel Studios produced project has been filming in Australia since January.
According to Deadline, the studio was hoping to keep the role a secret until it was released. However, over the weekend, Crowe was seen with other cast members at a rugby match. This opened up speculation of his involvement.
As for specifics regarding his role, the outlet didn’t reveal much. They did make it sound like it will be more of a cameo, similar to Matt Damon’s.
This isn’t Crowe’s first role in the comic book genre. In 2013’s Man of Steel, he played Superman’s father, Jor-El.
As mentioned before, Thor: Love and Thunder will have plenty of star power. Joining Crowe will be Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Tessa Thompson (Valkyrie), Natalie Portman (Jane Foster/Mighty Thor), Chris Pratt (Star-Lord), Dave Bautista (Drax), Karen Gillan (Nebula), Pom Klementieff (Mantis), and Jaimie Alexander (Lady Sif). It will also have former Batman actor Christian Bale as the villain Gorr The God Butcher. Because of the film’s casting size, insiders at Marvel have said that it will have an “Avengers 5 feel”.
Taika Waititi will once again serve as director. Look for Thor: Love and Thunder to hit theaters on May 6th, 2022.
