Last summer it was reported that Marvel Studios was “discussing ways” for Thanos to return to the MCU. The Mad Titan, of course, was killed off, not just once, but twice in Avengers: Endgame. Now according to the creator of Thanos, Jim Starlin, he says he’s heard the same thing and specifically what film he will return for.
“I believe I heard some rumors that he’s [Thanos] coming back in different things. I think I’ve heard…confirmed from Marvel Studios is that he’s going to be…at least a guest appearance inside the Eternals, so he’s gonna be around. This is not anything I’m making up. This is something I’ve read somewhere.”
Judging by his comments, it’s not really clear if Starlin heard this from someone inside Marvel Studios or if he just read about it online. Personally, I think he has heard it from someone at the studio.
The part where he says it’s been “confirmed by Marvel Studios,” I don’t think is actually true. Unless I missed it, no one at Marvel has said that he will be in the film. This makes me think that this was a slip up on his end and that the studio told him about this.
For those that don’t know, in the comics, Thanos is technically an Eternal. Both his parents, A’lars and Sui-San, were Eternals. Unlike his parents, though, Thanos had the Deviant gene, which caused him to have the appearance he does.
Originally Eternals was supposed to come out in November. However, it was pushed back twice and will now arrive in theaters on November 5th, 2021.
