A new vague rumor from Murphy’s Multiverse says that actor/director/producer Joseph Gordon-Levitt has recently been in contact with “at least one of the creatives” at Marvel Studios. The outlet did not say how serious the discussions were or what role it would be for.
Since this news broke yesterday, many fans have been speculating that the role could be for the Fantastic Four reboot, notably Reed Richards. With a director now attached to the film, I imagine we’re not too far away from casting news, so it is possible.
Another possibility is that the discussions could have been about an off-screen role in the MCU. Gordon-Levitt, who directed in the past, could be seeking another opportunity behind the camera. If it were for a directing part, I imagine it would be for a show on Disney+ and not a film. Shows are less work and not as risky as films, so he might be better suited for them.
This is not the first time the Dark Knight Rises actor has been linked to the MCU. Over the last decade, he’s been rumored for roles such as Star-Lord (Guardians of the Galaxy), Ant-Man‘s Scott Lang, and even Stephen Strange (Doctor Strange). As a talented and versatile actor, as Gordon-Levitt is, it’s no surprise Marvel’s had their eye on him for a while.
