Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness has been one of the most under wraps MCU films of recent memory. With Sam Raimi now in the director’s chair, the film was able to get through production without anything significant leaking. But now, a new report may have just ended that streak as it reveals some major plot details, including who the main villain will be.
The report comes from The Illuminerdi, who says that the massive demon Shuma-Gorath will be the “big bad” in the sequel.
For those unfamiliar with him, Gorath first appeared in Marvel comics all the way back in 1972. Dubbed the “Lord of Chaos,” the massive creature appears as a giant eye with multiple tentacles coming out of it. He’s extremely powerful and is said to be the ruler of “hundreds of alternate universes.”
The outlet also revealed that Gorath’s grand plan will be to capture America Chavez (played by Xochitl Gomez). By capturing her, he hopes to harness her power of being able to travel around the multiverse freely. Of course, I’m sure it will be up to the Sorcerer Supreme, Scarlet Witch, Wong, and Baron Karl Mordo (Before he turns on them?) to make sure this doesn’t happen.
As always, I like to remind people that this is just a rumor. The Illuminerdi has been right on things in the past, but they’re still not as reliable as the Hollywood trades like The Hollywood Reporter or Deadline. So there’s a chance this could all not be true. Will probably know for sure when a trailer is released in the next couple of months.
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness will arrive in theaters on March 25th, 2022.
