In a shocking turn of events, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness may have found a new director. According to multiple outlets, Sam Raimi is in talks with Marvel Studios to take over directing duties of the upcoming Doctor Strange sequel.
Raimi is no stranger to Marvel films. He is best known as the director of the original 2002-07 Spider-Man trilogy that set multiple box office records. He would replace Scott Dickerson who departed the project last month due to “creative differences”.
Doctor Strange 2 which will see Benedict Cumberbatch reprise his role, is being described as the MCU’s first scary movie, which would make Raimi a logical choice as he has a long history of helming such films (Evil Dead trilogy, Drag Me to Hell). Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is scheduled to open May 7, 2021.
