Earlier today, it was reported that actor Alfred Molina will reprise his role as Doctor Octopus in the upcoming Sony and Marvel Studios film Spider-Man 3. Now another report says even more characters from previous Spider-Man movies are set to make a return.
According to Collider’s Jeffrey Sneider, Andrew Garfield, who played Peter Parker in the second film series, will reprise his role. He also reported that Tobey Maguire, who played the first on-screen version of the web-slinger, is in talks to return.
Sneider didn’t stop there. He also reported that actress Kirsten Dunst will reprise her role as the first on-screen MJ. Actress Emma Stone is also expected to reprise her role as Gwen Stacy.
With this news, it all but confirms that the third Spider-Man film in the MCU will heavily involve the Multiverse (or Spider-Verse as it’s called in the comics). Because of that, it automatically jumps to the top of my list as the most anticipated film in 2021. The thought of all three film versions of the live-action web-slinger (Holland, Maguire, Garfield) appearing on the same screen together is a Marvel fan’s dream come true.
Benedict Cumberbatch will also return to reprise his role as Doctor Strange. Since the Sorcerer Supreme has experience with the Multiverse, I would expect his role to be significant.
Spider-Man 3 is currently in production and will hit theaters on December 17, 2021.
