Hours before Disney’s Investor Day event is set to kick-off, some news for the upcoming Doctor Strange sequel has broken. According to Deadline’s Justin Kroll, actress Rachel McAdams will return to reprise her role as Christine Palmer in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
The news is a complete reversal of what was reported earlier this year, that she would not return for the film.
In the first movie, Palmer was a surgeon who worked in the same hospital as Benedict Cumberbatch’s Stephen Strange. She was also a former love interest to him as well. The report did not mention exactly how big McAdams’ role will be in the film.
Production for the Doctor Strange sequel is expected to begin once Cumberbatch finishes shooting for the upcoming Spider-Man film. This time around the film will be directed by Sam Raimi, who replaced original director Scott Derrickson who departed over creative differences.
With the word “Multiverse” in the subtitle, it’s expected that the film will somehow resolve around that. Along with Cumberbatch and McAdams, actors Benedict Wong and Chiwetel Ejiofor will also be returning for the film. They are also expected to be joined by Elizabeth Olsen, who will reprise her role as the Scarlet Witch, and Xochitl Gomez, whose rumored to play America Chavez.
Look for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness to hit theaters on March 25, 2022.
