With Elizabeth Olsen’s Wanda Maximoff set to return in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, it’s been thought that Paul Bettany’s Vision could possibly appear as well. During an appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert last night, Bettany was asked straight up by Colbert if he is in the upcoming Marvel Studios film.
Bettany: “This is a really great question. And, again, I said I was going to be entirely honest with you. You’re asking if… ‘Am I in Doctor Strange?’… Yes, no, yes, no, yes, no. I don’t know. Am I? What do you think?… I can neither confirm nor deny rumors that I am in said and aforementioned Doctor Strange.”
Bettany has a history of playing coy and misleading MCU fans during interviews. In the middle of WandaVision’s run last year, the actor famously teased that an actor he’d “longed to work with” would appear in the Disney+ series as a major character. Fans would later on be upset to learn that the “actor” Bettany was referring to was actually himself as the White Vision.
The last we saw of Bettany’s Vision was in the finale of WandaVision. In it, the White Vision has his memories restored by the Hexed Vision (long story) and flies away to an unknown location. Sadly the Hexed version of the character ends up fading from existence after Wanda removed her spell from Westview (also a long story).
Despite his connection to Wanda, I personally think it’s unlikely that he shows up in Multiverse of Madness. For over a year, there have been so many rumors/leaks on who will be appearing in the Doctor Strange sequel. Outside of fan speculation, I can’t think of any that said Vision is in it. I hope I’m wrong and he is in it, but I got a feeling I’m not.
You can catch Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness in theaters on May 6.
