During last Sunday’s Super Bowl, MCU fans were sent into a frenzy of excitement after the second trailer for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness was released. In one particular scene that made everyone’s jaw drop (including mine), a handcuffed Doctor Strange is brought before a group of individuals rumored to be The Illuminati. As he faces them, we hear the voice of Patrick Stewart, who is presumed to be reprising his iconic role as the X-Men leader Charles Xavier.
Recently, Stewart has been doing a media circuit to promote the second season of his upcoming show Star Trek: Picard. During one particular interview with Kevin McCarthy, the legendary actor was asked if that was indeed his voice we heard.
“I must say, before bedtime on Sunday evening, I’d had plenty of communications,” Stewart recalled with a smile. “Friends and some people I hardly knew at all making reference to [the trailer]. “Is that you? Is that you?’ Well, of course, you know, I was just at home waiting to watch football, so how could it possibly have been me? We’ll have to wait and see, won’t we?”
It’s not surprising that Stewart is playing coy and won’t confirm anything just yet. It’s obviously him, but I’m sure that he’s been given orders from Marvel Studios to not verify anything.
During a separate interview with ComicBook.com, Stewart suggested in a comedic matter that someone might be trying to imitate his voice.
“You know, people have been imitating my voice ever since I came on the stage 60 years ago. So, I can’t be held responsible for that.”
It will be interesting to see if we get an image of Stewart’s Xavier before the film’s release. With over two months still until it hits theaters, I’d imagine that we’ll get one more trailer (probably when tickets go on sale). So it’s a possibility will see him.
Catch Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness in theaters on May 6.
