In May, rumors started to surface online that the main villain in the upcoming film Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness would be Shuma-Gorath. Known in the comics for conquering countless universes, the rumors seemed to make sense given the movie’s title.
Now it seems that the reports are accurate. On the Australian online bookstore Booktopia, a 1,000 piece puzzle set is available for pre-order that shows a picture of Doctor Strange taking on Shuma-Gorath. The item is listed as an official merchandise for the upcoming Marvel Studios film.
In the lower-left corner of the promotional art, there are also images of America Chavez, Wong (?), and the Scarlet Witch. According to the same rumors from last May, the film’s plot will revolve around Shuma-Gorath trying to capture Chavez. The giant beast hopes to use her abilities of traveling around the multiverse.
This isn’t the first time that promotional toys have made major reveals for an upcoming MCU film. In February, a leaked picture of a Lego set for Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings gave the world its first look at Simu Liu suited up as Shang-Chi.
Up until two weeks ago, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness was scheduled for a March 25, 2022 release. Unfortunately, it was pushed back to May 6, 2022 because of “production shifts.” Since then, it has been revealed that the Sam Raimi-directed film would undergo reshoots this month and in December.
So what do you think about Shuma-Gorath being confirmed as the main villain?
