The Marvel Cinematic Universe is filled with so many great moments. Making a list of my favorite ones took a lot of time and effort. There are many great scenes that are filled with happiness and uplifting moments. Some even bring fans to tears.
One thing that you will find that sticks out is that the music is fantastic in all of my choices. Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige is said to be a huge film score buff. So I’m sure he had something to do with making sure the music for everything was just right. Anyways, here are my top five moments in the history of the MCU.
5. Thor takes on Hela’s army (Thor: Ragnarok, 2017)
This was the toughest choice I had to make on my list. I couldn’t decide if I wanted to choose this scene or the one in the first Thor film were he dies and then comes back to life with his powers. After a long debate with myself, I settled on this one, and I’m positive I made the right decision.
For those that don’t remember, in it, Thor is about to be killed by Hela. The last of Asgard’s citizens are about to be slaughtered by her forces. Suddenly Thor has a vision of his father explaining to him that he does not need his hammer to summon lightning. Just then, he summons a massive bolt of lightning that dispatches her, and he then continues to take on her army.
What I loved about this scene was that it did not use its own theme music, it used Immigrant Song by Led Zeppelin, and it worked out perfectly. In the scene, I always liked how it went between Thor, Hulk taking on Fenris the wolf, and Valkyrie strut walking down to face Hela’s army. All these reasons are why it made it into my list.
4. Thor arrives in Wakanda (Avengers: Infinity War, 2018)
This might be my most controversial choice on this list. Over the last year, I have noticed that people on social media have actually said this is their favorite scene. So for me to put it at number four might make a few folks upset. Regardless I still think it’s a fantastic scene.
Leading into it, Wakanda looked like it was going to be overtaken by Thanos’ forces. But suddenly, Thor with his new Ax Stormbreaker, and Rocket and Groot, arrive by Bifrost and help turn the tides of the battle. With the Avengers theme music leading the way, it is one of the most uplifting scenes in the history of the MCU. This is why it is number four on my list.
3. Tony Stark’s Funeral Scene (Avengers: Endgame, 2019)
This might not have been my favorite, but it definitely was the most emotional scene in the history of the MCU. The first couple of times I saw this in theaters, I have to admit I teared up a little bit. I always knew that Tony Stark’s death was a very likely possibility. But to see it and then how nearly all the Avengers came together to pay their respects was just so powerful.
Of course, the music for it was spectacular. It perfectly fit the type of emotion that it was showing. Also the camera movement was really something. To see it, slowly go through all the heroes and separate them from different franchises in the MCU was terrific. In the film’s commentary, the Russo brothers, the directors of the film, said that to prepare for the shot, the crew practiced the shot over a dozen times the day before. They knew how emotional the shot would be, so they wanted to get it right. All these things together are why I have it as number 3 on my list.
