The Marvel Cinematic Universe over its 23 films has had some great quotes. They’ve been funny, inspiring, uplifting, and just plain cool. Some of my favorite social media memes have been of these quotes. For the next entry in my MCU top 5 series, I have decided to do my favorite quotes in the MCU.
Now I’ve said this before with other lists, but by far, this was absolutely the toughest top 5 I’ve ever done. I switched the order of things more times than I ever had before. There were so many great choices that I included four honorable mentions, the most I’ve ever done. These quotes were great in their own way, but unfortunately, when you do a Top 5 list, things have to get cut. I’ve listed them in no particular order, so it’s not like the first one is number nine.
“The revolution has begun” (Korg in Thor: Ragnarok)
“I am Iron Man” (Tony Stark in Iron Man)
“She’s not alone” (Natasha Romanoff in Avengers: Infinity War)
“Avengers Assemble” (Steve Rodgers in Avengers: Endgame)
5. “You’re a dude. This… this is a man. A handsome, muscular man.” (Drax in Avengers: Infinity War)
This is the funniest line in all of the MCU, in my opinion. This whole scene where every one of the Guardians of the Galaxy, except for Peter Quill, admire Thor’s body was hilarious. When I saw this in the theater and Drax said this, I remember it got the biggest laugh from the audience for the whole film.
All of Thor’s interactions with the Guardians in Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame was just comedic gold. Their chemistry together was just so good. I can’t wait till Thor: Love and Thunder, where the Guardians are expected to have a small role.
4. “We are Groot” (Groot in Guardians of the Galaxy)
When I first saw Guardians of the Galaxy in theaters, I shed a couple tears when Groot said to Rocket the very emotional line “We are Groot.” Granted, I did have a couple of Rum and Cokes in me at the time, but never the less, I did cry a little.
The scene was very emotional because Groot sacrifices himself to save the rest of the Guardians. We also get to hear him say something other than “I am Groot” for the first time. I imagine that the translation for this was something along the lines of “we are family, ” making it even more touching.
3. “There was an idea” (Nick Fury in The Avengers)
Lately, The Avengers has been airing on the Epix movie channel. Anytime I see that it’s on and it’s close to Nick Fury’s “there was an idea” speech, I always make sure to watch. I absolutely love this scene. It’s so motivating and also sad at the same time because of Phil Coulson’s death. My favorite part is right after Fury says, “Phil Coulson died still believing in that idea. In Heroes”, Tony Stark dramatically gets up and walks away. It gets me going every time.
I also loved how Marvel Studios used it in their Avengers: Infinity War‘s teaser trailer. In it, they had Fury, Stark, Vision, Thor, and Romanoff recite most of the speech. It’s probably my favorite trailer the studio has ever released.
2. “We have a Hulk” (Tony Stark in The Avengers)
The most badass line in all of the MCU is right after Loki tells Tony Stark that he has an army, Stark responds by saying “we have a Hulk.” It was a perfect response by the billionaire tech genius and is why fans love him.
Since the film’s release, the exchange between the two has been made into countless memes on social media. It’s a line that not only made the film more popular but the entire MCU as well. It was used again in Avengers: Infinity War, only this time by Loki. Unfortunately, it didn’t turn out so good for the Hulk as he got the crap kicked out of him by Thanos.
1. “That’s my secret Cap. I’m always angry” (Bruce Banner in The Avengers)
Sometimes when I’m at the gym and want to get pumped up before I start running on the treadmill, I watch the scene where Bruce Banner tells Captain America what his secret is. Right after he tells him it’s because he’s “always angry”, he turns into the Hulk and punches the Leviathan. This is then followed by the circling shot of all the Avengers.
I loved this line and scene so much that it’s actually one of my favorite moments in the MCU. The way it all went down, from the quote to the circling shot, was just excellent. I said before that this was the hardest list to make, which is true. Honestly, though, it was not hard to make this number one.
