The upcoming Moon Knight series is adding a couple of directors to its rotation. The Hollywood Reporter reports that filmmakers Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead have been added as directors for the Disney+ series. They join Mohamed Diab, who will serve both as a director and showrunner for the series.
Both filmmakers are known for their work on Indie movies such as The Endless and Synchronic. According to the outlet, they will direct not just one episode but “several”.
The show is not expected to hit Disney+ until 2022. It will begin production in March. The outlet also says that actor Oscar Isaac has indeed signed on to play the lead role of Marc Spector (aka Moon Knight). Questions about whether Isaac had signed on for the role were raised last month when he was not officially announced at Disney’s Investor Day event. It appears though that the Star Wars actor will in fact join the MCU.
The character Moon Knight first appeared in Marvel Comics all the way back in 1975. Spector’s backstory is that he was an elite soldier and mercenary. He was resurrected by an Egyptian god of the moon named Khonshu, who he would serve as an avatar for and fight crime. After the appearing in the series, it is expected that Isaac will appear in future films as the character in the MCU.
Update at 10:00pm:
Justin Benson on his Twitter account confirmed that he and Aaron Moorhead will in fact direct a couple of episodes. He also confirmed that Oscar Isaac has been cast as Marc Spector (aka Moon Knight).
