(The following contains spoilers for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. You’ve been warned.)
Despite losing its director Jon Watts a few weeks back, Marvel Studios’ highly anticipated Fantastic Four film looks like its added a couple of producers to help it along. During an interview with ComicBook.com, Moon Knight head writer Jeremy Slater revealed that Grant Curtis and Nick Pepin (who also worked on the show) are currently helping to shape Marvel’s first family together.
“My execs on Moon Knight are the same guys who are running Fantastic Four, so we had a lot of talks about it,” Slater said. “Grant and Nick are amazing executives. They’re going to find brilliant writers and brilliant directors. And they don’t need my stink anywhere near that project.”
It sounds like both Grant and Pepin are working as consultants for the studio to help get things going on the creative side. As mentioned before, the film lost its director recently. Also, despite being in development since 2019, it still doesn’t have any writers attached. It will obviously be there responsibility to help fill these positions. The question that everybody wants to know is how long is it going to take for them to find these positions?
As for Slater, he himself actually wrote the first draft of Fox’s awful Fantastic Four film (2015). During the same interview, he was asked if he’s been lobbying his producers to write the movie.
“I don’t think the original Fantastic Four was my fault per se, because I have one line of dialogue in that movie when Reed is about to do his science experiment as a kid, and he’s like, ‘Don’t blow up,’ I think that’s the one line that held over from my script and everything else was changed,” he adds. “So I don’t take a lot of ownership over it, but I also know the optics of if they announce, ‘Hey, we’re doing a Fantastic Four movie,’ All of Twitter goes ‘Yay,’ and they’re like, ‘And the guy that wrote the last one’s doing it again,’ and all of Twitter goes, ‘You idiots!’
We still don’t know who will star in the MCU’s Fantastic Four film. However, in the recently released Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, there was a Reed Richards that appeared that was played by John Krasinski. It’s not known if he will reprise his role in the reboot. If he does, it won’t be the same exact character because he died.
