One of the many bright spots of the first two Ant-Man films was the supporting cast and their added sense of humor that they brought to the film. Michael Pena’s role is one of those people. In the first two films, he plays Luis, Scott Lang’s fast-talking former cellmate and friend.
Back in November, it was reported by The Hollywood Reporter that a third Ant-Man was in the works and that Peyton Reed would once again be behind the director’s chair. Since then there’s been very little that has come out about the third ant-sized superhero film. In an interview with ComingSoon.Net, Pena gave an update on if he’s heard if he will be back for the third installment.
“For the last one, I didn’t really know what capacity I was going to come back in or if I was going to come back”, he says. “I think they’re a year away from filming, I think it would be great if I could do a third one. But you never know, especially with all the stuff that happened in Endgame. Right now, Marvel’s in a situation where they can crush some expectations, they’re gonna have to crush some expectations of other characters, not just mine, so hopefully I make the cut.”
Last we saw of Ant-Man was at the very end of Avengers: Endgame during the Tony Stark narrated montage. He was sitting with Hope Pym (Wasp) and his now teenage daughter, Cassie. Some believe that the third installment will involve Cassie suiting up to join her father and Hope. Michelle Pfeiffer’s Janet van Dyne is also expected to have a bigger role since she had such little screen time in Ant-Man and the Wasp. So there are a couple of factors that make Pena wonder if there will be any room in the third installment for him.
No release date for ‘Ant-Man 3’ has been announced or reported but it’s not expected to be until at least 2022.
