In December, during Disney’s Investor Day presentation, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige teased that we’d be getting some news soon for the upcoming Blade film. Thanks to The Hollywood Reporter, that news has arrived.
According to the outlet, Marvel Studios has tapped Staci Osei-Kuffour to pen the script for the Mahershala Ali led film. Marvel selected her after meeting with many different writers over the last six months. This is not Osei-Kuffour’s first time working on a superhero project as she worked on the HBO limited series Watchmen as a story editor and writer.
Announced all the way back in 2019 at San Diego Comic-Con, Blade will star Ali as the half-vampire superhero, whose nicknamed the Daywalker. This will be the second outing for Blade on the big screen. Wesley Snipes played the role in three films during the late 1990s and early 2000s.
The studio will next move to hire a director. It’s not known when Blade will begin filming. No official release date has been given, but it’s expected to be either late 2022 or sometime in 2023.
