Since the release of the latest Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings trailer last Thursday, fans have been wondering if that really was the Abomination fighting Wong at the end. Now in a new interview with Rotten Tomatoes, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige confirmed that it was in fact them.
“Yes, we just recently released the final trailer for Shang-Chi,” said Feige. “Some fans said, ‘This looks like a character they hadn’t seen in many years named The Abomination, fighting a character that looks like Wong. And I can say that the reason it looks like that is because that is Abomination fighting Wong.”
It has been known for a while that the Abomination would be making his return to the MCU. In December, Feige announced that Tim Roth, who played the character in 2008’s The Incredible Hulk, would appear in the upcoming She-Hulk series.
Feige was asked about being able to bring the character back after a 13-year absence.
“[It’s] a fun thing to have a character that we haven’t had on screen in over a decade show up again in the MCU. And to see fans on that little tag of the trailer recognize that and embrace that is great fun.”
It will be interesting to hear what the Abomination has been up to all these years. The last we saw of him, he was beaten by the Hulk and presumably imprisoned. Apparently, he’s managed to escape.
Catch Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings in theaters on September 3rd.
