(The Following contains spoilers for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. You’ve been warned.)
With a little over a week until its release, a TV spot for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness has leaked online that reveals some pretty big spoilers. It seems that the spot was suppose to come out early next week, because at the beginning of it, a voice-over is heard saying “this Friday” (movie comes out next Friday).
While the 15 second long video has since been delated, a six second version with all the key scenes is still available to watch. In it, we learn that Captain Carter (played by Hayley Atwell) is in the film, after she’s seen facing off against Elizabeth Olsen’s Wanda Maximoff. We also get confirmation that the Captain Marvel variant that has appeared numerous times in the trailers is actually Maria Rambeau (played by Lashana Lynch). Toward the end of the video, we’re also shown a glimpse of Professor Xavier (played by Patrick Stewart) sitting in his iconic yellow hoverchair.
It’s long been rumored that Atwell’s Carter and Lynch’s Rambeau would be part of the same Illuminati that Stewart’s Xavier is in. While this is the first time that Atwell will physically play Captain Carter, she did voice the character in the animated series What If…? last summer.
Lynch, of course, first played Rambeau in 2019’s Captain Marvel. The MCU universe’s version of the character is the mother of Monica Rambeau (played by Teyonah Parris) and does not have powers. In WandaVision, we learned that she actually passed away from cancer during the blip.
I’m sure Kevin Feige and the rest of Marvel Studios are not happy about this leak. At least though it’s something that was intended to come out before the film’s release and not after. There’s always the possibility that it was done on purpose to create hype. Will probably never know.
So what do you think about Captain Carter and Maria Rambeau/Captain Marvel being confirmed to appear in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness?
