In January, Deadline reported that Chris Evans was in talks with Marvel Studios to return to the MCU and reprise his role as Steve Rodgers (aka Captain America). The report didn’t specifically say what the project he would return for would be, but it did say that it wouldn’t be his own standalone film.
While making the rounds this week to promote the Falcon and Winter Soldier series, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige was asked about the report by EW.
“I rarely answer no to anything anymore because things are always surprising me with what happens, but that rumor, I think, was dispelled rather quickly by the man himself,”
“Anything is possible, right?” he says. “I saw he tweeted something about it. So, I don’t know. I feel like usually he knows what to say in those things, so I didn’t know what to make of it. And I truly don’t have any intel on that. I feel like you can’t ever think of the words ‘Captain America’ without thinking about Chris Evans. He’s done such an amazing job with it, and I feel like he’s always going to have this presence. And he has a presence in our show.”
As the mastermind behind everything that goes on in the MCU, he definitely knows if the report is true or not. But obviously, he’s choosing to play dumb and not give a straight answer.
Personally, I believe Deadline’s report that Evans is coming back. Justin Kroll, whose the writer that reported it, is very tapped into Hollywood. He wouldn’t have just thrown this out there if he wasn’t sure it was true. I think he actually heard about it from Evans’ agent or somebody that works for him.
One other thing that Feige briefly talked about toward the end of his comments is Steve Rodgers’ “presence” in the Falcon and the Winter Soldier series. It’s known that Steve will be brought up in discussions by Sam Wilson and Bucky Barnes. But is it possible that he will be more involved than thought, like a flashback scene? Will just have to wait and see.
The first episode of the Falcon and the Winter Soldier hits Disney+ tomorrow.
