The MCU is not just popular with fans, it’s popular with actors and actresses too. Every now and then, some star will come out and say they want to play a certain Marvel hero. The latest one comes from actress/singer Janelle Monáe who says she wants to play X-Men fan-favorite Storm in Black Panther 2.
Unlike most stars, she has already had the luxury of pitching her casting to Black Panther director Ryan Coogler. In an interview with Empire Magazine, Monáe talked about how she presented the idea to Coolger, and that it’s her dream to play the weather-controlling mutant.
“I definitely have thrown it out there,” Monae said. “One of my dreams has always been to play Storm. I don’t know if she comes in Black Panther, but it would be a dream to have her in it. I don’t know where they are with that. A lot of women have played Storm and they’ve done an exceptional job, and I would love to be in that line of artists and get to do Storm justice.”
Thanks to Disney’s acquisition of 20th Century Fox in 2019, it is possible for Storm to appear in the Black Panther follow up. In the X-Men films under Fox, she was played by Halle Berry (four films) and Alexandra Shipp (two films).
Black Panther 2 is slated to hit theaters May 6, 2022, with Coolger returning to direct. Other than that, not much is known about the film, let alone if Storm is in it. However, it would be a logical choice for her to make her MCU debut. In the comics, she’s had an on-again, off-again relationship with T’Challa. In 2006 the two actually got married. Unfortunately, it ended in divorce six years later in 2012.
