Well, isn’t this some shocking news. According to The Hollywood Reporter, actor Jamie Foxx is in talks to return as Electro in the upcoming Spider-Man 3 film produced by Marvel Studios and Sony.
Of course, Foxx played the classic Spidey villain in 2014’s The Amazing Spider-Man 2, starring Andrew Garfield. This take on the franchise did not exist in the MCU as it was only produced by Sony. The report did not say if Foxx will be playing the same version of that character or an entirely new take.
This will now raise the question of whether the Multiverse will be involved in the film. Marvel Studios already has one movie coming out in Phase 4 (Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness) that revolves around different universals in the MCU. Perhaps this will be the second. However, With the negative reception that The Amazing Spider-Man 2 received, it wouldn’t be surprising if he was playing a new take on the villain.
Filming for Spider-Man 3 is expected to begin this fall in Atlanta. Jon Watts will return for his third outing as director. Also returning is Tom Holland, Zendaya, Marisa Tomei, Jacob Batalon and Tony Revolori. The film is expected to be released in theaters on December 17, 2021.
