James Gunn says GOTG 3 at the moment will not be pushed back

By Stephen Ippolito | April 13, 2023

Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn’s Twitter feed continues to be the gift that keeps on giving in terms of MCU news. On Sunday, Gunn Twitted that despite the recent shift in nearly the entire MCU Phase 4 slate, Guardians of the Galaxy 3’s release still has not changed.

Last week during Comic Book.com’s watch party that Gunn participated in, the director said that the film would involve Rocket’s origin.

Originally scheduled to open May 2020, the film was pushed back indefinitely due to Gunn’s 2018 Twitter scandal. During his short ousting, he was hired to write and direct the second Suicide Squad film for Warner Media (expected to be released summer 2021). Gunn has maintained that he will not begin work on the third Guardians movie until he is finished with the DC Comics film.

At the moment, Guardians of the Galaxy 3 does not have a release date. Still, some wonder if it will take Marvel Studios currently Untitled film slot in May 2023.
