James Gunn hints Rocket’s origin will be a big part of GOTG Vol. 3

On Tuesday night, Comic Book.com’s Brandon Davis hosted another #QuarantineWatchParty, this time watching Guardians of the Galaxy. The director of the film James Gunn and his brother Sean joined on the fun and contributed to the showing.

Throughout the night, the director gave a lot of insight into the writing and shooting of the film. Like what guidelines Marvel gave him when writing the script, or that the Power Stone was initially red. The biggest reveal that Gunn made was about Rocket and how vital his story will be in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3

Rocket’s tragic story is hinted in an emotional scene during the first film. In the comics, he was created on a planet called Halfworld, which was a colony for the mentally ill. Here animals were experimented on and given human-level intelligence and cybernetic parts. One of his close friends was a talking Walrus named Wal Rus.  I really hope he’s in the movie because he sounds awesome.

At the moment, it’s not known when GOTG Vol. 3 will come out. Gunn is currently working on DC Comics’ second Suicide Squad film, which is set to hit theaters Summer 2021. Gunn has said he will not begin working on Vol. 3 until his work is done with the DC film. So you are looking at late 2022 or sometime in 2023 when you will see the third installment hit theaters.
