In May, MCU fans were excited to hear that J.K. Simmons had signed on to play J. Jonah Jameson again in future Marvel films. Of course, he became a fan favorite with the role in all three of Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man films throughout the 2000s. After a 12 year absence on the big screen, Simmons shocked everyone when he returned as the character during the mid-credits of Spider-Man: Far From Home.
During an interview with SiriusXM’s The Jess Cagle Show, Simmons once again surprised everyone by saying he’s already filmed his next appearance as Jameson.
“Well yeah, [I’ll be back as J. Jonah Jameson] that’s the short answer. There is a future for J. Jonah Jameson after a several-year hiatus. He showed up very briefly for those who were wise enough to stay through the credits of Far from Home… There is one more JJJ appearance in the can, and from what I’m hearing there’s a plan for yet another. So hopefully JJJ will continue now and forever.”
So now the question will become, what movie has he already shot his role for? If I had to guess, it’s probably Morbius. The upcoming Spider-Man villain spinoff, which technically takes place in the MCU, was originally suppose to be released in July. However, it was moved to March 2021 because of the Coronavirus. So shooting should have been finished for quite some time now. The other possibility is Venom 2, which had been in shooting before everything was shut down. As I said though, my money is on Morbius.
Either way, I’m just excited that Simmons’ return was not just a one-time thing.
