After rounding out its cast over the last couple of months, Marvel Studios’ Ironheart series has finally found its directors. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Sam Bailey and Angela Barnes have been tapped to helm the Disney+ series.
Bailey is known for co-creating the Emmy-nominated show Brown Girls. She also served as a director on the final season of Dear White People. As for Barnes, her credits include directing episodes of Mythic Quest, Blindspotting, and the upcoming fourth season of Atlanta. According to the outlet, Bailey will direct the first three episodes while Barnes will helm the last three.
The other piece of news The Hollywood Reporter revealed is that Black Panther director Ryan Coogler will serve as Executive Producer on the series. In addition, his production company, Proximity, will handle the show’s production. News of Coogler’s involvement was actually spoiled a couple of weeks ago by one of the show’s cast members Anthony Ramos.
Chinaka Hodge will serve as Ironheart’s head writer. Along with Ramos (who’s playing the villain), the show will star Dominique Thorne as Riri Williams (AKA Ironheart), Lyric Ross as her best friend, and Harper Anthony in an undisclosed role. Before she appears in her own series, Thorne’s Williams will make her MCU debut in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever this November.
Filming for Ironheart is expected to begin in June, which means it will probably premiere on Disney+ sometime in 2023.
