One of the many projects announced at Disney’s Investor Day event last December was a Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special. The special will be written and directed by James Gunn and will be released on Disney+ in late 2022.
In a new interview with Collider, Gunn revealed that the runtime of the project will clock in at “under 40 minutes”. He also restated that it will take place before Vol. 3 and in the MCU.
“It’s in-canon, it’s about the Guardians, you’re gonna learn stuff that you need to learn before Volume 3, and it’s great I’m really happy with it… I’m gonna film it at the same time as the movie. I’m using a lot of the same sets, the same actors obviously, so we’re filming simultaneously with the film but it’s gonna have to be edited and finished sooner.”
“Under 40 minutes” is a little shorter than I was expecting. I guess it makes sense though because it will keep the budget down and still allow it to feel like an MCU film.
So what do you think about the runtime of the Holiday Special? Too short, long, or just right?
