Marvel Studios has dropped the first trailer for their upcoming Ms. Marvel series. The studio also revealed that the show will premiere on Disney+ on June 8.
Based on the popular Marvel comics character, Iman Vellani stars as Kamala Khan (AKA Ms. Marvel), a 16-year-old Pakistani American who lives in Jersey City. In the comics, Khan is an Inhuman who has “embiggen” powers (ability to enlarge and stretch her limbs). For whatever reason though, the studio decided to change the origin of her abilities. As you see in the trailer she will now receive them from some type of cosmic artefact. In addition, while her powers look similar, they seem to resemble Green Lantern’s abilities to make “constructs”.
The studio also dropped the very first poster, which resembles a popular shot in the comics of Kamala sitting on a lamppost looking at the city.
Along with Vellani, Ms. Marvel will star Laurel Marsden, Anjali Bhimani, Aramis Knight, Saagar Shaikh, Rish Shah, Zenobia Shroff, Mohan Kapur, Matt Lintz, and Yasmeen Fletcher. The series was directed by Adil El Arbi, Bilall Fallah, Meera Menon, and Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, while Bisha K. Ali served as Head Writer.
So what do you think of Marvel Studios changing Kamala’s powers and origin?
