The Mother of Dragons is coming to the MCU! According to Variety, Emilia Clarke is in “final negotiations” to join the upcoming Marvel Studios series Secret Invasion. The outlet did not reveal what character she will be playing.
The addition of Clarke comes one day after it was reported that Olivia Colman is also in talks to join the project as well. Announced at Disney’s Investor Day back in December, the series already has Samuel L. Jackson (Nick Fury) and Ben Mendelsohn (Talos) attached. Last month, Kingsley Ben-Adir was also added to the cast in an undisclosed role.
Of course, Clarke is well known for her role as Daenerys Targaryen on HBO’s Game of Thrones. She now joins Richard Madden and Kit Harington as the latest Thrones stars to hop aboard the MCU. Both Madden and Harington have roles in the upcoming Eternals film.
Expected to hit the Disney streaming service sometime in 2022, Secret Invasion will be based on the Marvel Comics event story. It’s expected to be about Skrulls secretly infiltrating high levels of governments across the globe.
Filming for the series is slated to begin in the UK and Europe in the fall. Mr. Robot’s Kyle Bradstreet will write, and Executive Produce the series.
