Emilia Clarke discusses why she chose to join the MCU’s Secret Invasion series

Marvel Studios’ upcoming Disney+ series Secret Invasion has been filling out its cast with some well-known stars for the last couple of months. One of them is Game of Thrones and Solo alum Emilia Clarke.

During an interview with ComicBook.com, Clarke talked about why she wanted to join the MCU, despite already having experience in mega franchises.

“I just think what they’re doing right now is so exciting and so cool, and so on the cutting edge of it,” the actress explained. “I feel like they’re like the Apple of this world. To be part of that family feels like, ‘Oh my god, I’m in the cool kid crowd. That’s so cool.’ Honestly speaking, the people that are making this are what pushed me over the line to really wanting to do it. I just think that everyone’s heart and heads are in the right place with this one.”

I’m sure another reason that she did not mention is money. Roles in the MCU can turn into a huge long-term source of income for some of these actors/actresses.

As for whose she’s playing in the series, it’s been speculated that it will be someone within the Skrull Empire, possibly Queen Veranke.

Secret Invasion will be based on Marvel Comic’s massive cross-over event of the same name. It will see Samuel L. Jackson (Nick Fury) and Ben Mendelsohn (Talos) reprise their big-screen roles and deal with shape-shifting Skulls infiltrating governments throughout the globe. It will also star Kingsley Ben-Adir, Olivia Colman, Christopher McDonald, and Killian Scott.

During the same interview, Clarke talked about her experience reading comics growing up.

“I grew up reading fantasy fiction, so I know that’s not the same as the actual comic book itself, but that was where my imagination lived. And so, then reading about superheroes for the first time, I’m pretty sure it was Superman that was my first ever. And Spider-Man, I kind of thought he was pretty cool. Spider-Man was the first origin story that I remember as a child reading and being like, ‘Oh wow, this is more than what’s on the page. This is a bigger world,’ and then being allowed into that.”

Secret Invasion is expected to begin filming this Fall in Europe. It’s scheduled to premiere on the Disney streaming service sometime in 2022.
