Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness continues to dominate the box office. During its second weekend, the sequel made $61M domestically. The total does represent a 67% drop from its first weekend, which is the third-highest ever for an MCU film (Black Widow 67.8%, Spider-Man: No Way Home 67.5%). On the plus side, with a 10-day domestic total of $291M, the film has already blown by the first Doctor Strange, which made $232M during its run in North America in 2016.
Overseas, Multiverse of Madness earned $83.5M this weekend, which gives it an international total of $392M. Worldwide, the movie has earned an astonishing $688M, which is also already higher than what the first film brought in ($677M).
With its higher-than-expected drop (Disney had hoped for 65%), it will be interesting to see if it can reach the $1B worldwide milestone. With a little over $300M away from hitting it, the Phase Four film will have to do it without a China release. If it does make it, it will become the second movie during the pandemic era to hit the mark (Spider-Man: No Way Home $1.89B).
