Disney hands out furloughs to film division; Marvel Studios expected to be impacted

The Coronavirus outbreak has impacted the global economy on a massive scale. The entertainment industry has been hit as hard as anyone with almost the entire summer film slate being delayed. News broke today via The Hollywood Reporter that Disney has begun letting employees in the film division know that their jobs will be “temporarily dismissed” as of April 18th. Marvel Studios who is under the Disney film studio, is expected to be impacted by this.

The online outlet does not give too much detail on who will be impacted, but it did say that the marketing and distribution departments will be hit hard. Good news is that this will only be temporarily and employees on leave will continue to receive health benefits.

Last Friday Disney announced that nearly all of its Phase 4 films starting with Black Widow, had been pushed back 3-6 months each.
