In May, Ant-Man co-star Michael Douglas teased that news for the third film in series would be coming soon. However, it seemed the actor spoke too soon, as there’s been nothing from Marvel.
In a recent interview with SiriusXM, Peyton Reed, director of the first two films, didn’t give us any news regarding the film. Still, he did tell us what to expect in it.
“The third Ant-Man movie is going to be a much bigger, more sprawling movie than the first two,” Reed said. “It’s going to have a very different visual template.”
It’s good to hear that Marvel Studios wants to raise the bar for their size-changing superhero film series. I always thought that compared to other MCU films, the first two Ant-Man movies were not on the same level. They felt like they could have been released on Disney+ instead.
As for how it could be bigger, there have been multiple rumors on what is in store for Ant-Man 3. One of them says the film will introduce the Young Avengers to the MCU. With Cassie Lang now a teenager, some think that she will take up her father’s mantle and form her own team. Given the source of this report, I’m not sure I buy it.
There has been another rumor that I do think is more likely. This one says that the villain for the film will be MODOK, who, according to the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. showrunners, was made unavailable to them after initially being given the green light. Could it be that the reason for the reverse decision was because the studio has plans for him in the MCU? Time will certainly tell.
Ant-Man 3 is being written by Rick and Morty alum Jeff Loveness. It is not known when the film will be released.
