We finally have some positive news on the Deadpool series. According to the reliable Justin Kroll at Deadline, Marvel Studios is moving forward with Deadpool 3 and has hired Wendy Molyneux and Lizzie Molyneux-Loeglin to write the script. Ryan Reynolds will return to reprise his role as Wade Wilson (AKA Deadpool).
According to Kroll, over the last month, Reynolds and Marvel had been meeting with potential writers. In the end, both parties decided on the Molyneux sisters, who are best known for their work on the show Bob’s Burgers. It was also noted that the film will have a new director as David Leitch, who helmed Deadpool 2, is not expected to return.
Kroll also says, like the first 2 installments, the film will be rated R. Since the rights of Deadpool were acquired by Disney in March 2019, many had wondered if they would tone down the Merc with a Mouth and make the film PG-13. Well, it appears Disney and Marvel have made the wise decision of keeping it the way it is.
No timetable was given on when the film will be released. If I had to guess, I would say 2023 would be the earliest it would hit theaters. Because the film will be rated R, MCU fans will now wonder if this will open up the door for more films to do the same, like Blade.
Shortly after this story broke, the official Deadpool Twitter account tweeted out a picture of Bob from Bob’s Burgers. Seemingly confirming the news about the hiring of the writers.
