MCU fans are breathing a sigh of relief now that Marvel Studios has acquired the film rights to the X-Men. The series is in for a much-needed reboot after the last installment, Dark Phoenix, was such a bomb that it lost more money than any other film in 2019. However, at least one person hopes that he’s invited back to continue the series in the MCU.
Simon Kinberg, who directed Dark Phoenix, gave an interview with IGN in which he expressed interest on returning to work on the series with Marvel Studios.
It shouldn’t come as a surprise that Kinberg still wants to continue his work on the X-Men. Since 2006, he has worked as a writer, producer or director on all but two of the films in the series. So he must feel emotionally attached to the franchise after working on it for so long.
It does seem unlikely though that Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige would go down this route when it comes to bringing the Charles Xavier led team into MCU. With it’s poor box office performance and not so much better reaction from critics and fans alike, it feels like Feige is going to want a full redo with all new creative people leading the way with the series.
