Throughout Spider-Man: No Way Home‘s production, there were multiple rumors that Jake Gyllenhaal’s Quentin Beck (AKA Mysterio) would make a return. In the previous Spidey film (Far From Home), it was presumed that he had died from a gunshot wound. However, given his projection technology, some thought this was a trick and that we had not seen the last of the villain.
Well, obviously we know now that he’s not in the movie. However, thanks to some recently released concept art from Andrew Reeder, who worked on the film, we’ve learned that at some point during its development he was slated to appear.
As you can see, Mysterio was supposed to be in the film’s final battle scene at the Statue of Liberty. In it, he would have gone one-on-one against Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange.
There was no mention of exactly why he was left out of the Sony and Marvel Studios film. It’s possible that both studios felt that there were too many characters involved already, or maybe they just thought it was better to leave him dead.
One thing is for sure though and that’s fans would have loved it if he was in it because that would have meant that we would have gotten our first on-screen Sinister Six.
