Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 has added another late addition to its cast. According to Deadline, Bulgarian actress Maria Bakalova has joined the third Guardians film in the series. While the outlet didn’t reveal who she would be playing, they did describe her role as “key” to the Marvel Studios produced film.

Soon after news of Bakalova’s casting broke, Director James Gunn confirmed it on Twitter.

As mentioned in the title, Bakalova is best known for her role in 2020’s Borat 2. For her portrayal of Borart’s daughter Tutar, she earned an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actress. Her other credits include Netflix’s The Bubble and Women Do Cry.

Filming for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 finished in early May. Recently Gunn revealed that Chris Pratt, who plays Guardians leader Peter Quill (AKA Star-Lord), gave a “beautiful speech” during the final day of filming. While it’s widely known that this will be the last film in the series that Gunn will serve as director, it’s unknown if this will be the final one for the cast as well.

Along with Bakalova and Pratt, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will star Pom Klementieff (Mantis), Dave Bautista (Drax), Zoe Saldana (Gamora), Sean Gunn (Rocket/Kraglin), Karen Gillan (Nebula), Daniela Melchior, Chukwudi Iwuji, and Will Poulter (Adam Warlock). You can catch it in theaters on May 5, 2023.
