According to Comic Book.com’s Brandan Davis, Marvel Studios plans to start filming their Blade reboot later this year. The film will star two-time Oscar winner Mahershala Ali as Blade, a half-vampire superhero whose nicknamed “Daywalker”.
For a film that’s only months away from shooting, it doesn’t have many people attached to work on it. Besides Ali, the only other known person that’s attached is Staci Osei-Kuffour, who will serve as writer. I would imagine that the next big hire will be a director.
Last week, some fans were disappointed to hear that the film will likely be Rated PG-13. The news came to us from Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige, who said that other than Deadpool 3, the studio has no plans to make Rated R films.
A PG-13 rating would make the film the first in the series to not be Rated R. The previous Blade installments starred Wesley Snipes and were released in the late 1990s and early 2000s.
During a recent interview with Uproxx, Snipes said that he will not be involved with the film.
“I don’t have any involvement, but I support the young artists and I support Marvel in their business decisions,” Snipes said. “It’s a beautiful thing. [Mahershala Ali has] got a heck of a job on his hands.”
If Blade begins production this Fall then there’s a chance that it could still be released in 2022.
On a fact sheet released by Disney at their Investor Day event in December, Blade was chronologically slated between July 2022’s Black Panther 2 and November 2022’s Captain Marvel 2. Marvel Studios still has an untitled film slated to be released on October 7, 2022, so that’s likely the spot it would land.
